All universities in Sri Lanka will reopen tomorrow (September 6) for academic sessions, Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake told Ada Derana.

All the faculties of the universities excluding the Medical faculty had been closed since August 21 following the union action taken by the university lecturers.

However, President of the Federation of University Teachers Association, Nirmal Dewasiri stated that the trade union action adopted by the lecturers will continue unhindered.

FUTA held talks with the Secretary of the Finance Ministry, Dr. P.B. Jayasundara today (September 5) but Dewasiri stated that the discussions were a failure.
