The Navy rescued 52 persons stranded mid-sea after a failed effort to illegally sail to Australia. The group was brought back to the Galle Harbour by the Navy this morning (September 16) at around 7am.

The group had set sail off the coast of Chilaw on June 26 but had experienced technical difficulties on the boat around 280 nautical miles off the coast of Sri Lanka where they were then stranded for 20 days.

The Navy rescued the helpless group and brought them back to the Galle Port where they were handed over to the Galle police for further investigations.
