Navy Commander Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake is set to retire from his post on September 26, sources told Ada Derana.

Vice Admiral Dissanayake joined the Navy on June 1, 1977 as a Navy cadet and received 15 service admiral during his service while he was made Navy Commander in January 2011.

Vice Admiral Dissanayake was the 17th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. In July 2009, His Excellency the President in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces appointed him as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy in recognition of his invaluable contributions towards eliminating terrorism from the Motherland. It was Vice Admiral Dissanayake who spearheaded the decisive Naval Operations in Northern waters during the victorious final battle against the LTTE as the Northern Naval Commander.
