Army Major identifies one attacker; all suspects released on bail

The Army Major who was allegedly assaulted recently at a five-star hotel in Colombo has identified one of his attackers during an identification parade at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today.

Five suspects in remand custody were produced at the identification parade held before Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne.

Meanwhile Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeratne who are released on bail over the assault incident also appeared before the court today.

Major Chandana Pradeep of Army Intelligence, who recanted his statement that Malaka and Rehan assaulted him, on Friday told court that the incident had occurred due to him experiencing sudden distress.

All suspects remanded over the assault on the Army Major were released on bail by the Magistrate’s Court today. They were each released on a personal bail of Rs. 100,000 and a cash bail of Rs. 10,000.
