60% academics ready to return to work - SB

Around 60 percent of university lecturers have agreed call off their strike action to report to work, says Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake.

He said that even a considerable number of university students had attended classes in the past couple of days.

Speaking to Ada Derana, Dissanayake said he believes the remainder of students will join educational activities by next week.

Meanwhile Secretary to the Ministry of Education Gotabaya Jayaratne states that around 50 academics have expressed willingness to the Examinations Commissioner to participate in paper marking.
