The Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Manjula Tilakaratne has been hospitalized following an alleged assault by a group of unidentified persons, police said.
The attack is said to have taken place in the Hotel Road area in Mount Lavinia this morning.
Reports state that four armed men had assaulted Tilakaratne and stabbed him at least three times.
The Secretary has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and is currently receiving treatment for injuries, head nursing officer of the hospital Pushpa Ramyani De Soysa said.
Incidentally Tilakaratne had stated last Saturday (Sep. 29) that there is a threat to the security of all persons in the judiciary sector including the highest in the sector as well as members of their families.
He further said that the lives of his and his family are threatened due to the statement issued by him on September 18 regarding undue interference in the Judiciary Services Commission.
Tilakaratne issued a statement last month saying the JSC, which is responsible for the administration of Sri Lanka’s justice system, was being targeted for criticism.
