KP’s assistance to develop the North

The government intends to utilize the services of a non-governmental organization (NGO) headed by former LTTE Chief Arms Procurer Kumaran Pathmanathan, alias KP, for development activities in the North,  Lakshman Hulugalle said today.

The Director General of the Media Centre for National Security stated that no NGO can operate in the Northern Province without the approval of the of the Presidential Task Force, and that the organization headed by KP has received its consent.

He further said each parent of those who have served or perished between January 01, 1983 and May 19, 2009 while in active military duty will be presented with Rs. 750, at a ceremony to be held at Temple Trees tomorrow. 

The amount will be deposited in a bank account and presented to them, the senior defence official said at a press briefing today.
