The National Action Plan to implement the LLRC recommendations contains several useful recommendations which can be utilized to harness the potential of Sri Lanka’s worldwide diaspora in a “positive fashion,” the United Kingdom said.
British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, John Rankin, states that recommendations such as on building relations between the community and the police could support and strengthen the development of Sri Lanka.
“Our view is that the action plan as a whole contains a number of useful recommendations which could support and strengthen the development of Sri Lanka, including for example recommendations on building relations between the community and the police and harnessing the potential of Sri Lanka’s worldwide diaspora in a positive fashion,” he said responding to a question in the 12th video of the ‘Ask the High Commissioner’ series published by the British High Commission on Friday (19).
“We look forward to progress in these areas,” Rankin said.
Responding to a question on what UK’s views on Sri Lanka’s National Action Plan to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Leant and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), he stated that a similar question was asked in the House of Commons recently and British Foreign Office Minister for South Asia Alistair Burt gave the following answer:
“The LLRC Action Plan contains a number of steps which if implemented would usefully address some of the LLRC recommendations. We now look to the Sri Lankan government to implement the Action Plan and take further action on reconciliation, accountability and a political settlement.”
