Mahanayakes ask president to rethink impeachment

The most venerable Mahanayakes have requested President Mahinda Rajapaksa to objectively reconsider the necessity of the impeachment motion brought against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.

Mahanayakes of the Malwaththe and Asgiriya chapters as well as Mahanayake of the Amarapura Nikaya Most Ven. Dawuldena Gnanissara Thera and Mahanayake of Ramanna Nikaya Ven. Napana Premasiri Thera in a letter have requested the President to act patiently, in a manner that will not tarnish the public’s trust in the independence of the judiciary.

The letter states that according to Buddhist teachings it is important to make decisions highlighting justive with emphasis on the country, society and race.
