BUDGET 2013: Imported milk powder to be taxed heavily

In his budget speech, the President proposed a high import taxation policy on milk powder to strengthen local farmers and offered domestic dairy farmers a stronger guaranteed price on a litre of milk.

He proposed that domestic dairy farmers should receive a minimum guaranteed price of Rs.50 per litre of milk.

However, in order to strengthen the domestic production the President proposed that the taxes on imported milk powder be increased.
