VIDEO: Mohamed Mahroof passes away

Former Minister and Opposition Leader of the Colombo Municipal Council, Mohamed Mahroof has passed away at a private hospital in Colombo this morning.
He entered Parliament in the year 2000 and was a UNP parliamentarian from 2000 to 2010, however was unsuccessful in the 2010 General Election.
Mahroof held the portfolio of Project Minister of Urban Public Utilities from 2001 to 2004. He was a trusted and close confidante of the late President R. Premadasa.
The UNP’s former Chief Organizer for the Colombo Central electorate and a member of the party’s Working Committee, Mahroof crossed over to the SLFP after obtaining party membership from President Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on August 24, 2011.
He later contested for the Colombo Municipal Council under the UPFA ticket and was appointed as its opposition leader succeeding Milinda Moragoda, who resigned citing personal commitments.
