A former LTTE operative who was involved in an assassination attempt on President Maithripala Sirisena, when he was the Minister of Mahaweli Development in 2006, was sentenced to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) today.
Sivaraja Jenivan alias Mohommadu Sulthan Cader Mohideen a.k.a Senan, who was charged with setting up a claymore mine in an attempt to assassinate Sirisena, was also fined Rs 10,000 by Polonnaruwa High Court Judge Amendra Seneviratne.
