DEW to abstain from voting on impeachment

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka and Senior Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera says he will abstain from voting on the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake in Parliament today.

The present crisis between the judiciary, legislature and executive needs to be ended, he emphasized, adding, that under such s situation no matter which government, president comes into power or who is appointed as chief justice, the issue will not be resolved.

Therefore my party, the Sri Lanka Communist Party and I have decided to refrain from voting on the impeachment, the Senior Minister said in a statement delivered in parliament today.
