Report on Law student’s amputation submitted to Health Ministry

The report regarding the amputation of a law student’s arm conducted at the Colombo National Hospital has been submitted to the Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilake, the Ministry stated.
The Ministry of Health appointed a special to committee to look into an incident where doctors had reportedly amputated the hand of a Law Faculty student Achala Priyadharshini who had sustained injuries after falling down a flight of stairs.
She was admitted to the Matara Hospital with fractures, following an accident at her home, and later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital, where her hand was amputated.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena instructed the Secretary to the Health Ministry, Dr. Nihal Jayathilake to conduct an immediate inquiry into the incident.
Therefore the Health Secretary appointed a special committee comprising Deputy Director General of Medical Services Dr. Ananda Gunasekera and specialist surgeons while instructing them to submit a report, the Ministry of Health stated.
