Krishnamoorthy appointed ambassador to Saudi

Former Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai V. Krishnamoorthy has been named as the new Sri Lankan ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, replacing Ahamed Javad who was recalled fallowing the execution of Rizana Nafeek.
The senior career diplomat was named for the post by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, however is to be submitted to the Parliamentary Select Committee on High Appointments for approval.
Measures have been taken to inform the Saudi government regarding the appointment, a spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry said, adding, appointing of envoys for vacant positions will take place within the next couple of weeks.
Vadivel Krishnamoorthy has earlier served as envoy at Dhaka (Bangladesh) and completed his three-year term before he was cross posted as the Deputy High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Chennai.
He was the Director-General of the UN and Multilateral Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for two years (2004-06).
Krishnamoorthy had earlier served in various capacities in the Netherlands (2001-04) and China (1992-97). He has also worked as the Director/ East Asia desk, Deputy Chief of Protocol (1999-2001, Assistant director/ West desk (1992) and Director of the Sri Lankan Institute of International Relations (2004-06).
