Former media spokesman of the Tamil Tigers, Velayutham Dayanidhi alias ‘Daya Master’ is likely to contest the upcoming elections for the Northern Provincial Council.

The former head of the LTTE media division, who surrendered to the Sri Lankan Army during final stages of war, stated that he considering contesting the election, scheduled to take place in September.

However, I have not made a final decision regarding the matter and will announce my decision in another week or two, Dayanidhi said, speaking exclusively to Ada Derana.

If Dayanidhi does contest the upcoming election, he is most likely to be a candidate from the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Daya Master surrendered to government forces with a colleague in April 2009, weeks before the separatist Tamil Tigers were defeated.

Once a senior member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Daya Master is now said to be working as the local head of operations for a privately-owned Tamil television channel.

Meanwhile President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday at a function in Weli Oya said all arrangements are being made to hold the Northern Provincial Council election in the month of September.
