Two persons were injured after police opened fire on them on the Kebithigollewa-Vavuniya road as they attempted to flee the authorities in a stolen vehicle. Two others who were also traveling in the vehicle were arrested, an Ada Derana correspondent stated.

The suspects had crashed into a motorbike with the stolen vehicle in Kebithigollewa and had fled the scene after which the Kebithigollewa police informed the 6thmile post police regarding the incident who attempted to stop the vehicle.

After the vehicle failed to stop on police orders the officers opened fire on the vehicle injuring two of the four suspects.

Both suspects were taken to the Vavuniya hospital while one was then transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.

The other two suspects were arrested and taken in for questioning.

Three of the suspects were from Kebithigollewa while the other was from Kandy.

Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
