President calls for report on weather warning

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to submit a report regarding the manner in which relevant authorities had taken measures to inform the public regarding the changes in the weather and the possible disaster situations it may cause.
Directing his attention towards the various difficulties the people of the country had faced due to prevailing adverse weather conditions, the President has especially requested for detailed information as to how the fishermen community was notified of the impending danger and how they were warned.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, when contacted by Ada Derana, stated that the Department of Meteorology has been instructed to submit a report regarding the occurrence before Tuesday (11).
At least twenty persons including 18 fishermen died while another 36 are reported missing at sea since yesterday after strong monsoon rains and wind lashed across the island.
Fishermen community and general public had blamed authorities for failing to alert them regarding the weather condition, in order to minimize the casualties.
