The Nuwara-Eliya Deputy mayor on whom an open warrant was issued for alleged child abuse surrendered to court and was subsequently remanded until September 9.
The Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court issued an order preventing the Deputy Mayor of Nuwara Eliya Tissa Seneviratne, from leaving the country on August 23.
The order was issued by the Magistrate after considering a request made by the plaintiff when the case filed by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) was taken up.
The NCPA had requested for an order preventing the Deputy Mayor, who is absconding after court issued an open warrant for his arrest, from leaving the country and that a copy of it be forwarded to the national intelligence chief as well as to the Immigration Controllers of both airports.
Seneviratne is accused of physically abusing five underage children over the past 2 years, Police reported earlier.
