The Health Ministry is taking steps to import certain types of medicines from Bangladesh after earlier having banned four Indian companies from importing them from India.

The Ministry of Health decided to ban the purchase of medicinal drugs from 4 Indian pharmaceutical companies due to quality issues and ordered that the purchasing of all drugs from the companies Laborate, Vivek, Bafna and Elysium Pharma be suspended immediately due to the companies allegedly supplying substandard pharmaceutical drugs within the past 4 years.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena and Bangladeshi Health Minister Dr. Ruhal Haq had held discussions regarding the possibility of importing these medicines from Bangladesh.

A MoU is to be signed in October between the two nations regarding the purchase of these medicines.
