VIDEO: Canada is isolated in its stand to boycott CHOGM - GL

Canada is isolated in its stand against attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris stated.

Speaking at a press conference held today, Minister Peiris stated that the commonwealth nations had overwhelmingly pledged their support to Sri Lanka in attending the CHOGM.

He stated that it was not the culture of the Commonwealth to sit in judgment of one another while claiming that all countries had its internal problems which need to be addressed by its governments.

The Minister said that Sri Lanka believed Canada was wrong to use its issues with the internal problems of Sri Lanka to boycott the CHOGM and quoted the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott who stated that Australia will attend the CHOGM and that rubbishing old friends will not help make new ones.

He also expressed that a host of nations that do not share the views of the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and that Canada was isolated in this view amongst the commonwealth nations.
