Youth drowns after car plunges into Diyawanna Oya

A twenty-one year old youth drowned after a vehicle plunged into the Diyawanna Oya in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte this morning.

Police said two persons were onboard when the car arriving from Kimbulawala and traveling on the road along Diyawanna Oya was involved in the accident which took place at around 2.20am today.

However, the driver of the car had managed to save himself. 

The deceased is a resident of Bagathale Road in Bambalapitiya.

Meanwhile a child has drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel in Attapalam, Samanthurai last evening.

Police said a 10-year-old boy from Akkaraipattu had drowned.
