After a successful campaign...

In collaboration with “Manusath Derana”, thousands of Sri Lankans joined hands and provided assistance to nearly half a million people affected by floods in many parts of the island.


The Manusath Derana flood relief project, which commenced the distribution of relief to flood-affected areas, has collected dry rations and other items for distribution to those in urgent need.


After a short period of announcement on Thursday (19), thousands of people rushed to TV Derana Head Office located at No 320, T. B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 to handover flood relief items and dry rations.


Subsequently, arrangements were made to collect relief items at the Colombo Fort Railway Station, Maradana Railway Station, Secretariat Office Station Colombo, Bambalapitiya Railway Station, Gunasinghepura Bus Stand in Fort and Fort Main Bus Stand as well. 


The following items were initially identified as required by flood victims:

Children’s milk

School stationary

Sanitary items

Towels New clothes

Dry rations

Underwear

Sarongs

Bottled water

 
Manusath also wishes to thank the public who contributed immensely in this hour of need. As of Friday afternoon, over 500,000 lunch parcels were received at Manusath Derana collection centers and they were dispatched to relevant flood-affected areas. 


The relief items were distributed for areas including Hanwella, Wattala, Bomiriya, Siyambalape, Wellampitiya, Kelaniya, Gampaha, Kaduwela, Kotalawala, Mulleriyawa, Jaela, Pokunugoda, Ambatale, Akurugoda, Weliwita, Pugoda, Ranala, Wele Handiya, Pittugala, Pattiya (West), Wanawasala (West), Avissawella, Wellampitiya, Petiyagoda, Biyagama, Pahala Bomoroya, Aturugiriya, Gahawatta Road – Angoda, DIsahena, Kalupepella, Karatota, Yakala, Himbutana, Chilaw, Parantanmulla, Mahawilattawa, Deduru Wewa, Manuwangama, Pissogama, Malwana, Kanuketiyawa, Mapitigama, Dompe, Pattiyagama, Haldumulla, Usaka, Mattakkuliya, Bulatsinhala, Koshena, Malabe- Wewapara, Kelanimulla, Sedawatta, Millennium City – Athurugiriya, Koratota, Kotikawatta, Weeramawata, Mabima, Walpola, Mahabutgamuwa, Minuwangoda, Kelawarapitiya, SInhale Temple – Kelaniya, Habarakada, Gemunu Rd, Wewala Junction, Meethota Rahula VIdyalaya, Ambagahawatta, Nagahawatta, and Kekiriwala Rd.  


Relief items were also dispatched to the Kelaniya Divisional Secretariat Office, Jaela, and Hanwella.


Many people flocked to the Derana head office in vehicle loads of relief items showing an overwhelming sense of comradeship and humanity.

Hundreds of thousands of parcels were received at those locations making the Manusath Derana flood relief campaign a massive success. 


Manusath Derana also wishes to thank the Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police and the Railway Department for the tremendous assistance to dispatch relief to flood victims. Well known business groups including Dulux paints, DSI, Lionco, Enis Agencies, and Kotagala Plantation assisted in providing relief items and as well as vehicles for relief transportation.


Manusath Derana has also been involved in many community service activities in Sri Lanka for the past few years by successfully helping community to identify kidney failures and directing them for medications to improve with their health conditions.


Earlier, TV Derana in its CSR initiative had successfully launched the second stage of the foster parent scholarship scheme “Derane Daruwo” to raise funds to educate children of families affected by kidney disease in Sri Lanka as well.  


The Manusath Derana also won the prestigious JASTECA Gold award for Corporate Social Responsibility last March.
