In the wake of reports that the Indian Prime Minister has decided to skip the Commonwealth meet in Sri Lanka, the United National Party (UNP) today accused Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister and External Affairs Ministry of engaging in “Montessori” diplomacy.
They are using diplomatic strategies which usually happen at a Montessori, UNP parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera said, adding, that the country has achieved no diplomatic victories under the current Minister of External Affairs.
He alleged that Minister G.L. Peiris and his Ministry ruin everything they do, all the time, even issues that could have been avoided.
This not only puts the government in difficulty but also the entire country, he said.
Therefore the inefficient planning and administrative process of the ruling government’s External Affairs Ministry and Foreign Minister could gravely harm the country in the long run, Perera said.
He further said that construction activities being carried out for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo next week are still ongoing and that such rushed and unplanned construction causes millions in wastage.
“What is the message we are giving by this?” he asked.
