VIDEO: R.I.T. Alles passes away at 81

The founding principal of D.S. Senanayake College, educationist R.I.T. Alles has passed away today at the age of 81.

Ralph Ignatius Thomas Alles, who also served as the State Secretary for Ministry of Education from 1989 to 1993, was the Chairman of the Gateway Group till his death.

Educated at St. Aloysius’ College, Galle and at St. Anthony’s College in Kandy, he started his career as a teacher, eventually becoming an assistant principal at Royal College Colombo and helped to establish D. S. Senanayake. 

In 25 years at the school, he helped turn it into one of the leading schools in Sri Lanka, expanding from 167 students to over 5000. There after he established the Gateway International School.

Alles was married to Rohini Alles who was also a teacher at Royal College Colombo. He is the father of MP Tiran Alles and Dr Harsha Alles.
