The inmates who are currently staging a rooftop protest at the Bogambara Prison today held discussion with the Commissioner General of Prisons, who has promised to resolve their problems within 3 months.

However, it has been reported that at least 30 prisoners are still continuing their protest on the prison roof despite the assurance from the Commissioner General of Prisons.

A group of inmates who have been sentenced to death and several other who are serving life sentences had launched the protest on Friday, demanding that their sentences be reduced or that they be pardoned.

The protesters say that 5 inmates who were acquaintances of Minister S.B. Dissanayake were recently pardoned by the President and plead that they be meted with similar treatment.
