January 22, 2014   02:59 pm

A private Act which UNP MP Wijedasa Rajapakse attempted to present before the parliament was rejected following a vote taken today (January 22).

The UNP MP requested permission to present a private Act which aimed to introduce an investigative process on behalf of a fair, independent and unbiased hearing with regards to removing Superior Court judges from their posts.

When MP Rajapakse requested permission to present the Act to parliament, the government MPs objected stating that a vote must be taken on the matter which the Speaker decided to proceed with.

The UNP MPs request to present the Act to parliament was denied by 38 votes after 34 MPs voted in favour of presenting the Act while 72 voted against.
