UPFA candidate D.V. Upul released on bail

Two suspects including the former Southern Province Fisheries Minister, D.V. Upul who were arrested today on assault charges have been released on bail after being produced before the Walasmulla Magistrate.

The UPFA Hambantota District candidate for the upcoming Southern Provincial Council election was arrested at around 11.00am today by Middeniya Police.

They were each released on a personal bail of Rs 200,000 after being produced at court.

The Campaigns for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) had reported that two UNP supporters, Piyasena Ekanayake and K. Jagath Kumara were assaulted by supporters of D.V. Upul on Thursday (6).
