VIDEO: Body found at P’deniya Uni identified as ragging victim

The body found hanging from a tree in the forest area behind the University of Peradeniya has been identified as V.K. Nishantha, 23, a student of the university’s Arts Faculty.

The identity of the body has been confirmed following the magistrate’s inquiry conducted today, Ada Derana reporter said.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana Stated that the postmortem examination on the remains is currently being carried out.

The decomposed body was found in a wooded area behind the Marcus Fernando Boys’ Hostel building at the Peradeniya University yesterday (10) while it was suspected that the deceased was V.K. Nishantha from Angunakolapelessa.

He is a victim of a ragging incident which had taken place at the university in 2011 and was a primary witness in the case filed regarding the incident.  

Nishantha had been reported missing for the past two weeks while his relatives had filed complaints with Angunakolapelessa Police and Peradeniya Police over the disappearance.
