Lieutenant Colonel arrested with heroin suspended

A Lieutenant Colonel attached to the Pampemadu army camp in Vavuniya, who was arrested on charges of heroin possession, has been suspended by the Sri Lanka Army.
Military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya stated that the Lieutenant Colonel in question has been stripped of all posts held in the army, as per the orders of the Army Commander.
The army officer was arrested last evening by a special North Central Province police team with 3 grams of heroin in his possession.
The suspect who had supplied the illicit drugs to the Lieutenant Colonel has also been arrested.
The Military Police has also launched a special investigation into the incident, the spokesman said.
