Welikada Prison guards foil inmate’s escape attempt

An inmate who attempted to escape from the Welikada Prison in the early hours of Saturday morning has been caught by prison officers, an official said.
The inmate had attempted to escape through the roof of the prison toilets at around 2.30am today, however he was captured by the guards, Superintendent of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said.
The inmate in question is currently serving a two year sentence at the Welikada Prison.
Meanwhile the spokesman for the Department of Prisons stated that investigations are still ongoing to arrest the two mentally handicapped inmates who had escaped last Thursday while receiving treatment at the prison hospital.
