Principal, female teacher remanded for abetting molestation of student

The Principle and female teacher of Kadawala Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, in the Hatton Educational Zone, have been arrested and remanded for allegedly abetting the molesting of a 16-yer-old school girl.
The suspects were remanded until August 05 by the Hatton Magistrate’s Court, Ada Derana reporter said.
The Advanced Level student was molested by a teacher from the same school on November 12, 2007 and the suspect was arrested following a complaint filed by the girl with Ginigathhena Police. The case is still pending at the Nuwara Eliya High Court.
Thiruwanandan Nagaraj, 38, who had then served as the Principal of the Kadawala Tamil Maha Vidyalaya and Roger Spayan Roger, 35, who had been serving as a teacher at the school at the time have been arrested and remanded for attempting to cover-up the incident.
Hatton Police have filed a case against them with the Hatton Magistrate’s Court. A verdict on the case is to be given by Hatton magistrate Amila Ariyasena on August 5.
