BIA ranked in top 5 in Asia Pacific

The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake has been ranked 4th in Central Asia by SKYTRAX and 5th in Asia Pacific by ICAO in their safety audit results, AASL said today.

Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) stated that in the Air Travel Ratings and Review of 2014, SKYTRAX ranked BIA as 4th among the best airports in Central Asia.

“The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ranked Sri Lanka as 5th in the Asia Pacific Region in respect of Air Navigational Safety Implementation and among the 17 states in the region which are above world average,” it said.

Analysis of airport operations and ranking is performed by several other international organizations as well.  

BIA has also notched itself as one of the fastest growing airports in the region by recording a 52% growth during the period from 2008 to 2012.
