New endorsement to driving licences

August 1, 2014   11:38 am

A new endorsement to the licences of the drivers engaged in passenger transportation would be added from 1 January, 2015, a source from the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) said.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic S.H. Harischandra told Ada Derana that the drivers who involve in passenger transportation will have to undergo a special training on mechanical aspects of vehicles, first aid programs and take part in awareness programs on ethical backgrounds.

According to the Commissioner, the endorsement would be added to the driving licences of drivers who undergo this particular training.

“This training is compulsory for the drivers involved in passenger transportation, including drivers of school vans, office staff transporters, tourists transporters, and bus drivers,” Harischandra said.

He added that two letters ‘PT’ (Passenger Transportation) will be imprinted on the driving licence of those who undergo the training.
