SC suspends appointment of Ja-Ela UC chairman

August 1, 2014   02:29 pm

The Supreme Court today suspended the appointment of Anju Sri Sham Perera as the Chairman of the Ja-Ela Urban Council.

Perera was appointed to the post in April 2014 replacing Upali Arambawatta, who was removed after the 2014 Budget of the UPFA-controlled Ja Ela UC was defeated twice.

The Budget was defeated for the second time by a majority of 5 votes on December 31, 2013 prompting the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to change the chairman.
