Police re-arrest drug kingpin who escaped

Sri Lanka Police today arrested the notorious drug dealer Dewage Thusitha Chamara alias Nilan, also known as ‘Kudu Chamara’ who had escaped from the custody of prison officers while receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital.
The suspect was arrested by officers from the Terrorism Investigations Department (TID) at the Katunayake International Airport this morning while attempting to leave the country under a false name.
Chamara was arrested on June 20 for the possession of 500 grams of heroin in the Thalangama area and remanded after being produced at the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
However, he escaped on June 29 while receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital under the custody of prison officers.
He had reportedly attempted to leave the country under the false name of Dissanayake Danapala Arachchige Sagara Tharindu.
