All propaganda activities should end before midnight tonight- EC

The propaganda activities with regard to the forthcoming Uva Provincial Council polls should cease before midnight today (17 Sept), the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said.

According to him, only approved elections offices which have already been established on the basis of polling district can function till the midnight of 18 Sept.

Similarly, in the notified central election offices or in any office which is permitted to be established in the district for a candidate or in the residence of the candidate display of promotional material, placards, posters or decorations are prohibited after the midnight. 

"All the candidates and supporters are therefore requested to remove all such display material and decorations," the Commissioner added.

Meanwhile, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) says that some 378 election violation incidents have been, thus war, with regard to the Uva polls. Some 267 complaints were reported from Moneragala district while 93 complaints were reported from Badulla district. There were 18 complaints common to both districts.
