The Democratic Party is ready to unite with the opposition and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in a bid to take over the power of the Uva Provincial Council, its leader former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka said.
Fonseka made the observation during an interview with the BBC held in Bandarawela, yesterday.
“The Democratic Party would work together with the UNP and as well as with the other parties to overtake the power. These parties can unite and build a strong connection in order to establish a force against the ruling party,” he added.
Fonseka has expressed that the ‘common goal’ of all the oppositions is to defeat the government, even though they contest for the polls separately.
A replica of the bombed car of Fonseka when he was serving as the Army Chief was also displayed at a rally held in Bandarawela.
