UN Human Rights Committee to review SL next week

The UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is meeting in Geneva from 7 to 31 October. The Committee will review Sri Lanka from 7-8 October. 

Burundi (8-9 Oct), Haiti (9-10 Oct), Malta (13-14 Oct), Montenegro (14-15 Oct), Israel (20 Oct)

The above are among the 168 States Parties to the ICCPR, which is one of the main international human rights treaties. They are required to submit regular reports to the Committee of 18 international independent experts.

The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.
The sessions take place from 10:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 18:00 at Palais Wilson, Geneva. A news conference is scheduled for Thursday 30 October at 13.30 in Press Room III, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Star Africa reports.
