Foreigners and foreign organizations who wish to visit North will need to obtain prior clearance from the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Army Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said.

Wanigasooriya added that the decision was taken following details received by the government intelligence regarding some groups who attempts to provoke public disturbance and conflicts among civilians in North.

He added that the foreigners will need to submit details on the purpose of their visit, and then only the authorities will grant permission to visit the North, including Jaffna.
