Beggar kidnapped child: DNA test to confirm paternity

October 23, 2014   11:25 am

A DNA test will be carried out to confirm paternity of the child who is believed to have abducted by a beggar and later found from Dambulla, Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana told Ada Derana.

This came after 42-year-old beggar also claims that he is the real father of the three-year-old child, the police said.

Child’s parents were summoned to the Dambulla Police station, last afternoon. “They have too identified the child. The DNA test will be conducted, so this will be verified scientifically,” said SSP Rohana.

The child who had been allegedly abducted by the suspect in Ambalangoda was found 10-months later at the Dambulla town, following an intensive search launched by child’s grandmother, last morning (22).

The beggar had allegedly kidnapped the child at the Ambalangoda bus station. According to the police, the suspect had drugged the grandmother and later kidnapped the child, in December, 2013. Child was found after the grandmother had launched a campaign in a bid to find her missing grandson by visiting from police station to police station, it was reported.
