United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Gampaha District Parliamentarian Wasantha Senanayake today defected to the United National Party (UNP).

Senanayake too participated a press conference held at the UNP Headquarters in  Sirikotha, this afternoon.

This came after President Mahinda Rajapaksa signed the proclamation declaring his intention to hold a Presidential election seeking another term. Senanayake said that he shifted to the main opposition in a bid to bring back good governance and change the draconian powers of the executive presidency.

Senanayake said that some other ruling party members would too quit the UPFA.
