In view of the prevailing security situation in the Iraq, the Sri Lankan Embassy in the country has set up a program to collect details of Sri Lankans who are presently in Iraq on legally and temporary visas.
It has been reported that there are around 2000-3000 Sri Lankans expatriates living in various parts of Iraq, mainly in Kurdistan Region in the Northern part of Iraq. However, our Embassy has records of only 300 Sri Lankan expatriate workers.
The Embassy learns that the number is increasing as the Iraqi Embassy in Colombo has informed that around 20 visas are being issued weekly for Sri Lankan workers to visit Iraq.
Therefore, relatives in Sri Lanka of the expatriate community in Iraq are kindly requested to provide the Embassy the following details by e-mail or by telephone. “Where they are unable to provide such information directly to us they are kindly requested to contact their relatives in Iraq and inform them of the Embassy initiative and provide them with the Embassy contact phone numbers and e-mail address as given below.
