Colombo Additional Magistrate today further remanded Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka Silva and six other suspects who were arrested on charges of assaulting a foreign couple at a night club in Colombo.

Malaka, four of his friends and two Ministerial Security Division (MSD) officials attached to his father were ordered to be remanded until 28 November by Additional Magistrate Mohammed Sahabdeen.

Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka Silva, who came to the spotlight yet again with the controversial assaulting incident of the foreign couple, has been in remanded prison for nearly a month, in connection with the incident.

The CCD arrested Malaka on 1 November following a complaint lodged by the foreign nationals.

The incident had taken place at around 3.00 a.m. at the nightclub, when the minister’s son had allegedly harassed a foreign woman, thereby provoking her partner who had then attempted to assault Malaka.
