South Asia summit opens in Nepal

Regional leaders are in Nepal for a two-day meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. During the summit, leaders from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are likely to discuss energy sharing.

They are expected to meet as a group and also hold bilateral discussions on the sidelines.

A meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif may also happen, although no official announcements have been made.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is in Nepal had bilateral discussions with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, the Nepal Information Department said.
 
 
The discussions took place with the participation of delegates from both parties at the Soaltee Hotel where the State Leaders are being accommodated.
