Police Constable injured following shooting in Vavuniya

A Police Constable (PC) attached to the Periyaulukkulama Police Station has been hospitalized after being injured in a shooting in the Vavuniya area.

The shooting had occurred near the Pawakkulama tank last night while the police officer was engaged in night patrol.

The constable had suffered gunshot injuries in one of his hands and a leg, however it is yet to be determined how the shooting took place and the cause.

The police constable is currently receiving treatment at the Vavuniya Hospital.
