Two arrested for brewing illegal liquor

The police have apprehended two persons for allegedly engaged in brewing illegal liquor in Kolinpadiya area in Wennappuwa. 

The team attached to the Wennappuwa police had made the arrest last night, acting on a tip-off, a police officer said.

According to the police, the team has seized various equipment used for brewing the liquor. The confiscated items included 14 barrels, 24,098 litres of goda, 400 litres of moonshine, some copper coils and a large haul of ammonia.

The arrested persons had been engaging in the racket for a long period of time, the police added. The suspects will be produced before the Wennappuwa Magistrate, today.
