Defence Ministry denies new Army Chief’s appointment

The Defence Ministry on Tuesday (17) denied reports that measures are underway to appoint a new Army Commander.

Several media reports suggested that a Major General is likely to be appointed as the Army Commander with effective from 22 February.

However, on the directions of the Defence Ministry, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army has made several changes of appointments and relinquishments of several key officers with immediate effect, yesterday.
