Police have launched an investigation into a complaint alleging that a certain group had forcefully taken down the National Flag and raised the “Sinhala Flag” at the Audience Hall (Magul Maduwa) of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), Kandy.

A complaint has been filed with the Kandy Police Station by the Administrative Secretary of the Dalada Maligawa, the Police Spokesman’s Office said.

According to the complaint, a group comprising several Buddhist monks and laymen from the Swarna Hansa Foundation in Battaramulla had attended an event held at the Dalada Maligawa yesterday (2) and proceeded to lower the National Flag and hoisted the other flag instead.

Kandy Police have launched an investigation into the incident, police said.
