Sarana Gunawardena arrested by CID

Former Deputy Ministers Sarana Gunawardena has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today on charges of criminal breach of trust, police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

The former Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries was summoned to the CID office this morning to record a statement, in connection with a complaint against him, while he was placed under arrest for further investigations.

The complaint filed against the UFPA Parliamentarian charges him with financial fraud amounting to Rs 9.6 million and criminal breach of trust.

He will be produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate’s Court this evening, he said.
